Using Home in Field Chronicle

How the Field Chronicle Home dashboard works—quick links, activity widgets, and a quiet start to your wildlife journal.

Field Chronicle isn’t trying to be “another photo gallery”—it’s trying to be the operating system for your time in the field.

Home is the landing page after you sign in. It is not another data-entry screen. It is the front door to the field journal: recent outing activity and shortcuts into the sections you actually use.

Quick links into the journal

The quick-links row jumps to Field Journal, Projects, Photos, Sightings, Species, Calendar, and Gear (when Gear is enabled). Use it as a table of contents, not as a second navigation bar. The sidebar remains the full map of the app.

Widgets you can turn on or off

Home widgets summarize recent sightings, uploads, life-list movement, favorite places, and month-to-month activity. You choose which ones appear in Settings → Home. Hide anything that is noise. A quieter Home is easier to trust.

Activity summary

The activity summary (also linked from Home) covers a year, a month, or a custom range: places, sightings, photographs. Use it when you want a seasonal recap rather than a single outing. The calendar is better for “which days was I out?”

Why Home matters

A field journal only works if you reopen it. Home is the low-friction reminder that last week’s walk is still there—without forcing you through every pane. Nature lovers often live here and in the Field Journal; specialists still use it as the daily front door to the outing record.
